Have you ever thought about starting your own creative business?

Bridget Jarvis owns and runs the company ‘Poppy Lane.’ She creates bright and colorful earrings, clutches and other pretty things. Her products are being stocked in 80 stores in Australia and spreading to stores over seas.

An average day for Bridget depends on whether her husband is home. Her day starts with little girls and cups of tea. Her mornings are spent juggling a newborn baby and two girls who go to Kindy. Bridget fits in working on her business in between caring for her children and her home. When asked about work/life balance, Bridget says some days she is Wonder woman and other days she isn’t. Learning to juggle the every day is the way Bridget finds balance.

Deciding to run a business while having a newborn baby was not an easy one. But Bridget sees that God has blessed her business so that it can be a blessing to others. With the help of nine beautiful local women, Bridget brings bright and happy spots in people’s lives.
If you have had a great creative business idea and you have wondered if you can pursue this while you have a family, Bridget has some tips for you:

1. Just Start! We can all find a million reasons why we can’t: not enough time, not enough money etc. Start small and see where it can grow. Use social media to start getting the news of your business out there.
2. Don’t Compare. If you are constantly looking sideways at what others in your field are doing it will stunt what you have got going on. Don’t get caught up if someone copies you or hurts your feelings, it will only hurt your growth.
3. Treat every customer as if they were your most valuable. Treat every customer with the utmost care and respect. Kindness will take you a long way in business. If you make a mistake (and you will), go above and beyond to make it up to that customer.
